Workshop description

This workshop is aimed at choral directors, choralists, arrangers, composers, musicians in general who wish to expand their knowledge in the construction of functional and effective choral arrangements for all types of formats, as well as the creation of new choral music with a powerful language. and creative.

Methodology

Students will experiment with each of the planned objectives, so that they can learn to make arrangements and compositions of different choral styles and formats, as well as different levels of difficulty. They will work through harmonic instruments to pre-prepare compositions and then show their work through musical software.

Classes

- In small groups.
- Classes only in person for quality reasons.

Indicated for:

- Music students with prior knowledge of musical language, harmony and elementary piano.

- Primary and Secondary music teachers.

- Instrumentalists and singers who want to get started in composition and arrangements.

- People with previous amateur musical practice interested in the world of composition and arrangements.

Workshop content


I. Basic notions of functional harmony:


Basic musical considerations:

· Musical reading.

· Intervals and chords.

· Conduction of voices.

· Music encryption (optional).


Functional harmony:

· Super structure (diatonic major scale with triads and tetrads).

· Tonal functions (T -SD – D).

· Basic substitutions of tonal functions.


Use of musical notation software (Sibelius).

· Workspace (tools, menu bars).

· Basic notions of musical notation (notes, symbols among other functions).

· Style manual for good editing of a choral score.



II.Basic fundamentals for choral arrangements:


The choral instrument:

· Voice classification.

· Records.

· Choral or vocal formats.


Styles and resources for a good choral arrangement:

· Melody (accompanied).

· Homophony.

· Counterpoint.

· Use of phonemes.

· Experimental language.


The text in choral music:

·

Prosody and musical accent.

·

Hyphens and sinalefas.

·

Punctuation marks in the text.


A capella arrangements equal voices:

·

For 2 voices (with harmonic content) SS, SA or children's choir.

·

For 3 voices (SSA or TTB).

·

For 4 voices (SSAA or TTBB).


A cappella arrangements mixed voices:

For 4 voices (without division).

·

For 4 voices (with appropriate divisions).


Adaptation, version and fix:

Proposal for an arrangement based on a choral work or another arrangement.
