Diversity Youth Choir (DYC) is a youth choir of excellence made up of more than 20 young people between 14 and 20 years old from the Central District of Madrid from different educational centers. Since its formation in September 2015, more than 200 young people have already passed through it. This project, directed by teacher José María Álvarez Muñoz, has a marked social character. In it, various nationalities are mixed (Philippines, Ecuador, Spain, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Dominican Republic, New Guinea, etc.) that form a well-matched family. For them, the choir has become a second home, where the most intense relationships are born thanks to music.
In its years of life, DYC has demonstrated an intense concert life in Madrid: its concerts are frequent in churches, markets, streets and squares. Highlights include his inaugural concert, 'In dulci Jubilo' (December 2015); They have participated in the 2016 Madrid City Council Holy Week Cycle; at 'FestivArte Cultures Against Racism' (December 2017) in Matadero in Madrid; They have inaugurated the IDEM Festival of La Casa Encendida (September 2018); They have performed at the National Dramatic Center for the Days of Social Inclusion in the Performing Arts (INAEM) and at the Montecarmelo Cultural Center (December 2018); for the Christmas Cycle of the Madrid City Council (January 2019); In March 2019 they participated in the recording of the group Amaral's new album; In May 2019 they performed for the Embassy of Ecuador, and in June 2019 they performed at the Expresando room.
They have carried out various choral exchanges (Regensburg Sparrow Choir, Florida Singing Sons Boyschoir, New York Children's Choir, Phoenix Boys Choir, San Ignacio de Loyola Choir and Mariano Ramo Choir).
They have also made inroads into the symphonic-choral world: in December 2017 they performed two concerts of Vivaldi's 'Gloria' and in December 2018 they offered three concerts of Handel's 'The Messiah'. On both occasions they performed together with five other choirs in a didactic project.
They have participated in various live programs on RNE (December 2015 and 2016) and Onda Cero (November 2017), in addition to having starred in a report in the newspaper 'ABC'.
In June 2016 they performed various concerts in La Rioja and in June 2018 in Valencia. In October 2018 they won First Prize in the III Villa Rosa Choral Competition. In July 2019 they toured Italy, offering concerts in the papal basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome and at the III Leonardo Da Vinci Festival in Florence, where they won four awards (two gold and two silver diplomas).
Their solidarity side also stands out: Christmas concerts are common at the Monserrat Residence, they have also sung at the Niño Jesús Hospital for hospitalized minors, they have participated live in the program 'I give you my strength' by Isabel Gemio on the occasion of Rare Diseases.
